Sweltering Heat and Cheddar Bay

June 24, 2012 at 2:51 pm

I’ve been getting a little behind with blogging lately, but I still wanted to share some photos from my sister’s graduation last Wednesday.

We got there about an hour early and if you remember, Wednesday was hot hot hot! Sitting in the bleachers with the sun beating down on us was absolute hell. Literally everyone around us was sweating buckets! I can’t even imagine what it would have been like to be one of the graduates in their navy robes and right in the middle of the football field. They must have been dying! My dad got this shot of my beautiful sister in the procession.

And we took some more photos on the field afterward.

Then we got in the car to go to Red Lobster for dinner! My sister loves it and we hadn’t been there for a while. Unfortunately, the hostess skipped us at least once when going down her list so we were waiting for a pretty long time. We were all starving by the time we actually sat down to eat! Despite our sweatiness, I still got everyone to pose for some photos. :D

How cute are my parents?!

Please ignore all of our sweaty shiny foreheads. Ick.

We started with the Cheddar Bay biscuits, my sister’s favorite! She was uncontrollable with them. ;)

Our meals came with soups for my mom and sister and salads for everyone. That was fairly uneventful though, and a good amount of it went uneaten. For her entree, my sister ordered the Cajun Chicken Linguine Alfredo. It was huge!

My mom went with the Garlic-Herb Shrimp and Chicken. It was good, but a little salty for my taste.

I don’t remember exactly what my dad’s dish was called but it had lobster and shrimp scampi. A little heavy on the butter in my opinion, but not bad.

Lastly, I had a half-size portion of the Island BBQ Salmon. It was a topped with a papaya barbecue sauce and pineapple salsa. So good!

My sister and mom’s meals came with dessert, so we also each tried a bite of the apple crostada and key lime pie. Loved them both! The rest of my family could barely get down a bite of each, but I of course saved room. ;) I took quite a chunk out of that key lime pie.

Such a fun day with my family! Congrats again to my baby sister for graduating. :)

SELF Workout in the Park

May 12, 2012 at 8:40 pm

What beautiful Saturday weather!

I’m loving it and took full advantage by going to Self’s Workout in the Park event in Central Park today. :)

I was so psyched and the event didn’t let me down at all! There were three workout areas, one in front of the main stage, one gated off to the side for pilates and yoga called the Quiet Zone, and another small gated off space for CrossFit. Sadly, every session of CrossFit was already full when I got there! :( I was disappointed because I was really looking forward to trying it after reading so much about it on Tina’s blog. Oh well, another time.

Check out the schedules for the main stage and the Quiet Zone though! Definitely enough to keep me busy throughout the event without CrossFit. :)

I got there around 11:30 and the first thing that happened was getting my hand stamped. Sadly, my stamp didn’t come out too well! A blogger’s nightmare, you know. ;)

Anyway, I wandered in and found that the place was already completely packed! A workout was in progress at the main stage, and a huge crowd was following along.

And the workout party continued throughout the day! This is from a Bollywood-style workout called Masala Bhangra led by Sarina Jain.

I know I should be doing yoga and pilates more, but I was so pumped up by the music today that I didn’t want to hit the quiet zone! I ended up joining in on the Ab Attack, Beach Body, Tabura, and LaBlast workouts. They were all awesome, but LaBlast was especially cool since it was led by Louis Van Amstel from Dancing With the Stars. It incorporated different types of dance and was really fun!

I tweeted to him that his workout totally kicked my butt and he even retweeted me! :)

Between the workouts, Danielle Monaro from Z100′s Morning Show emceed. I’m a big fan of the show so it was cool to hear her talk in person!

There were also sponsor tents set up around the perimeter with some really cool giveaways. LunaBar was handing out samples and so was PopChips!

Garnier was even doing mini facials and Vaseline was doing mini massages! The line for the mini massages ended up being too long so I missed out, but the mini facials were awesome. So refreshing, I loved it! :) And the Garnier tent was all covered and blocked off, which gave my skin a nice break from the sun.

Lastly, Laughing Cow had some samples out and there was a guy dressed up as The Laughing Cow taking photos with people. I took a picture with him, but I felt bad that was someone was in that suit in that heat and sun – hopefully it has some sort of fan installed!

I almost never do group exercise, so this was a big change of pace for me. I loved it though! Maybe I should start going to some of the classes at my gym. ;)

Overall, it was an awesome day! I had a blast and got an awesome workout that I’m sure I’ll be feeling tomorrow. Thanks for hosting this, Self! :)

Weekend Busy Bee

May 6, 2012 at 8:51 pm

I had a busy weekend! Instead of recapping all of it, here are a few tidbits of it:

Woorijip: My roommate and I swung by Korea Town after leaving the club on Friday night (or more accurately, Saturday morning). Bad, I know. But we were both hungry and needed a little something to soak up the alcohol in our systems.

I didn’t get a chance to take a photo of Woorijip, but it’s a fast food-style place with food in plastic containers in coolers and heating units. Very authentic Korean food and a lot of choice! Check out Yelp for some photos of their setup. :) My roommate picked out a noodle dish and I picked out some soup with tofu and seaweed. Didn’t taste like there was any miso in it to me though – it was spicy but good! The noodles were on the average side, similar to noodles you can get at any other Asian place.

Packard’s: I was cleaning out my summer bag (which I’ll need to share some photos of sometime) when I found this in the side pocket! It’s a menu from a bar in my college’s town that my friends and I used to go to all the time. It made me so nostalgic.

But on the plus side, my best friend and I decided that we want to go to my school’s commencement for the commencement speaker (Jane Lynch). I can’t wait to go back to Packard’s!

South Street Seaport Food Truck Festival: My friends and I decided to hit this up on Saturday to celebrate Cinco de Mayo! We’d all bought LivingSocial deals online that gave us two drink tickets and five tastes from the food trucks. But sadly, the deal wasn’t really worth it. :( It was packed and the lines were crazy long… We were willing to wait at first, but it turned out most of the “tastes” weren’t even a small dish! One truck (not naming names) only gave out a little condiment container-ful of cole slaw. I did try the tastes that the Treats dessert truck was offering up though – they gave a small Mexican brownie and butterscotch bar. Both were good! Overall though, my friends and I agreed that the LivingSocial deal was not worth it. Sad news for my foodie self. :( The event was still fun though! We ended up drinking and dancing on the Seaport. There were a ton of entertaining drunk people, of course. ;) Secret about me that’s not so secret… I love people-watching!

And lastly, a few at-home eats from today.

Breakfast

This morning’s breakfast was a bowl of delicious banana oats topped with granola!

Lunch

After I hit the gym in the afternoon, I wanted a smoothie bowl. I threw together a green monster smoothie with some protein powder in it and sucked it down. So good!

Dinner

I wasn’t too hungry after the smoothie bowl at 4:30, so it wasn’t until around 8 that I heated up a black bean quesadilla and leftover brussel sprouts. Now I’m nice and full. :)

The sleeping issues have persisted all weekend, sadly. But fingers crossed I get some quality sleep tonight!
