Bad News Bears

June 11, 2012 at 10:53 pm

I’m not often a victim of bad luck, but whenever I am, it seems to hits me pretty hard.

This past weekend was one of those times! On Saturday afternoon, I hit the gym with my new armband and my credit and debit cards in the cardholder (get where I’m going on?). After the gym, I went grocery shopping. I know I had both of my cards while I was at the checkout counter, but I couldn’t find my debit card when I got back to my apartment. Luckily, I live about three minutes from the grocery store so I just ran back out and retraced my steps… No luck though. I’m guessing someone found it and picked it up because I had to have gone back within the span of 10 minutes. I had to call the bank and get it replaced. :(

You know how I talked about getting my bloodwork done in my June goals post? Well, I’d gone and had it done last Monday and the results were waiting in my mailbox when I got back from my debit card-hunting trek. Sadly, more bad news. I’ve been plagued with genetic high cholesterol since I was in high school and I was really hoping it’d gone down in the past year since I’ve gotten a lot healthier, in terms of both my eating and exercise habits. But according to my bloodwork, it’s actually gone up slightly! Not significantly, but it was just very disappointing because that wasn’t the news I’d been hoping to get. There was some other bad news in there that I don’t really want to talk about… I need to call my doctor to talk about the results tomorrow and get some referrals for specialists. Boo.

And after all the bad news bears, I was totally drained and skipped my plan to write a post catching up on the week. But I’m trying my best not to make myself feel like I’m getting behind… S&R is my baby but it’s not my whole life!

Now let’s talk about the good stuff… Fooood! Here’s some of the stuff I’ve been enjoying lately:

A sample of chocolate/vanilla swirl frozen yogurt from my building’s cafeteria today. Topped with toasted coconut, yum! And how cool is this spoon?!

Vegan Divas’ chocolate mousse, which I discovered at my company’s cafeteria. Only 42 calories and absolutely delicious! Sadly, it’s a little pricey ($3.50) for an everyday snack so I may try making it at home to get my chocolate fix. :)

Veggie burger with soy provolone and roasted red pepper hummus on an Arnold sandwich thin. I just bought all of these things and they are all things I need to buy again soon. ;) It’s a tasty combination and a very quick meal!

Roasted pepper lentil chips with roasted red pepper hummus. Another awesome combination! I’m just loving this hummus lately.

And raspberries! They’re finally in season and I can’t get enough!

Peace out, Cub scout! ;)

When I Go Home to Visit My Parents

From What Should We Call Me:
How true is this?! There’s something about going home to my parents’ house that just makes me want to eat! And here’s some of the terrible stuff I’ve been eating:

Tangy buffalo wing Doritos

Those make my mouth burn! And…

Dark chocolate acai with blueberry

These are delicious and probably aren’t actually that bad for you… in moderation. Maybe not so much when you eat about an eighth of the huge bag at a time. Whoops!

I think one of the other things that triggers my desire to eat, eat, eat at my parents’ house is the fact that they don’t have much health food. I eat peanut butter pretty much every day, but all they have is Skippy, which I refuse to touch because of all the added sugar. No thanks!

Another thing I always do when at my parents’ house is go shopping! Having a car there and two nice malls within thirty minutes just makes it too easy to spend my money. :) Anyway, my sister and I went shoe shopping today! I really need a comfy pair of flats I can walk in for my commute to and from work. I considered this pair found at Lord & Taylor:

Tahari Valerie flats

How hideous is their carpet?! Horrible carpets seem like a prerequisite of all department stores. Anyway, I also found this pair at DSW (sorry for the washed out feet!):

Tahari Villa flats

Both were cute and on sale for around $50, which I thought was reasonable. But I just didn’t love either of them. The first were really comfortable, but I wasn’t crazy about the huge flower embellishment on them. The second had a patent strip at the back, right at the heel, which made them a little stiffer. They seemed like they’d require some breaking in, which I hate. So sadly, passed on both. I’ll have to keep looking!
